Somaliland mental health initiative

As you may already know, Mental heath is a critical issue in somaliland with limited resources to tackle the issue and many families not being able to afford the help they need. However in this recent corona virus pandemic the situation has severely worsened with nearly all mental health institutions being switched over to quarantine centres for the sick, leaving even those who can afford the help with no where to go. This means many families with schizophrenic relatives have no option but to chain them up at home and care for them 24/7, this means feeding them and cleaning them and doesn’t include medical treatment because their is none available, in some situations these vulnerable people are being cared for by their elderly parents who are struggling to cope, but these are the lucky ones as many of them will be left in the streets with no shelter, food or water. In Burco their is only one remaining institution open and is being severely overwhelmed with patients with many families queuing up outside in need of help, a small donation could help contribute to the expansion of this facility to accommodate more people or even help open up new ones to host the poor and sick.
