It's been a tough year for many of our kids. Let's get together and give Black Panther tickets to our students who can't afford to go. Bow Tie Cinemas in South Orange will sell us discount tickets in books of 50. Our goal is to raise enough money for 100 tickets. Each ticket will be $7. That's a total of $700 ($28 is for GFM fees). We can do this!
I spoke to Karen Weiland who works with social workers for SOMA schools. She said that children as young as fifth graders (especially in Seth Boyden and Clinton) are so excited for this film. She has lots of ideas for how to distribute these tickets to MMS, SOMS, and CHS. (If we get more tickets, she'll also reach out to our younger students, but they would need an adult to accompany them.) She said that there's such a demand. She's already talking to principals, guidance counselors, and teachers and telling them to dream. Let's help them dream big!
I'm setting our goal at 100 tickets. But, just for a little friendly competition, Bow Tie told me that when a Connecticut school tried this, they raised enough money for 200 tickets in less than 3 days. We're NJ. Are you telling me that we can't beat CT?
Here's the timing. Bow Tie Cinemas needs 2 days to get us tickets. As soon as we raise our goal, I will call to order the tickets that day. So, if we get tickets by Tuesday, that means we should get the books in time to get them to schools for Friday. Then, they can distribute them.
Thank you so much for contributing! Wakanda forever! :-)
