Covid-19 has arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The country is disarmed, hospitals have no means to save lives like elsewhere, and barrier measures are impossible to put in place.
SOLUTIONS FOR CONGO will do whatever necessary to help the country which is already overwhelmed by Ebola, wars, natural disasters, economic crisis.
The containment measures will aggravate the financial and food insecurity of numerous inhabitants due to the compartmentalization that characterizes their living conditions.
Products in response to barrier measures, such as hydroalcoholic gel, have experienced a price increase of more than 400 per cent, making them inaccessible to many and making them a luxury product. Moreover, in the densely populated neighbourhoods of Kinshasa, the wearing of masks has been made compulsory since 20 April 2020.
Our objective: To reduce as much as possible the risk of propagation of the Covid-19 virus, the consequences of which would be mass mortality, given the lack of means in hospitals and the financial impossibility of the most vulnerable sections of the population to access medical care: students interned in Kinshasa and confined to homes, residents of orphanages, residents of old people's homes, peasants, farmers, people living with disabilities, unemployed young people.
We are going to make masks and make hydroalcoholic gel in large quantities, and offer some food rations for the most vulnerable inhabitants of Kinshasa. Our teams are ready, dressmakers, chemists, volunteers, NGOs, and even government officials!
