SOLOMON’S FAREWELL
By Sue Leake
I lived on the streets forced to roam.
I dreamed of life in a proper home.
The Angels came, gave me to you
They said it was the thing to do,
That I would be safe, warm and fed,
Always to sleep on a soft bed.
You rescued me, I rescued you,
We needed each other, that is true.
I learned to play and chase a ball,
I stole your socks and that’s not all.
I was your Sun, your Special One,
Together we had lots of fun.
I loved you lots, you won my heart.
I thought that we would never part,
You gave me love, you soothed my fear.
I healed your pain, you kept me near,
Our time was short. It was well spent,
But not forever, only lent.
The Angels came, it was time to go,
They needed me, and so you know,
An Angel too, and born to be,
I’ve other dogs to be set free.
Although I’m gone, with work to do,
I will always watch over you.
You knew, deep down, I’d have to leave.
So dry your tears and do not grieve.
You changed my life, and gave me joy.
I’ll always be your ‘Bestest Boy’.
