Solomon Islands Ferry Disaster Appeal

One of our most loved Wantok artists, Charles Maimarosia, comes from Are'Are', Malaita in the Solomon Islands.
On Saturday the 4th of April, a ferry disaster caused by Tropical Cyclone Harold led to 27 people who were on the top deck to be thrown overboard. The passengers were departing the capital Honiara on the MV Taimareho under a government program to evacuate people to their home villages during the global coronavirus epidemic. Most of the passengers were students who were returning home. Four of Charles' nephews were amongst those who have drowned.

Whilst we appreciate that times are tough for everyone at present due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to fundraise an appropriate amount of money to support Charles’ family and the community in this tragic time, to help pay for funeral costs.
Charles has recorded a song 'A’mamiuru' (Forgiveness) that he wished to make available online in return for donations to this cause. Any donations made to this campaign will receive an mp3 of the song. You can listen to the song here
Donations over $25 will also receive a download code for Charles' EP, 'Are'Are''.
It would be greatly appreciated if those who have the means can offer a small gesture of support to our close neighbours in the Solomon Islands.

Brenda Arumisi is from Nariekeara village. She completed her diploma of Business and management at Solomon Islands National University.
Jordan Waiomena was Charlie’s nephew, shopkeeper, eldest son.
Julius Sihoraua, son of Max and Elizabeth Eiripo, adopted by John Panasu.
Lionel Su’unoru was Charles' nephew - Just graduated as an electrician, the tallest man in Are ‘Are.
Martin Arehana was a musician, a band member of Amamata band.
Rose Ma’uni was a 16 year old girl in Year 11 at school.
Patrik Pahe. was a nephew of Charles
Vincent Arahausu was studying teaching at Solomon Islands University.
Elizabeth Eripo was a catholic Sunday school teacher at Epalle Mass Centre
