Soldiers Kids Need Toys Too

PLEASE HELP BRING SOME HOLIDAY JOY TO OUR SOLDIERS KIDS.

Inland Mopars Car Club needs your help to purchase toys for approximately 1500 to 3000 soldiers kids at Fort Irwin. 100% of the funds raised will be used to purchase toys for their 2020 Holidays.

For the last six years our classic car club, Inland Mopars So Cal, has chosen to show our gratitude to our military families stationed at Fort Irwin through an annual toy drive for the kids.  Fort Irwin is our military’s National Training Center for troops prior to deployment and is located in the Mojave Desert approximately 35 miles outside of Barstow.

Our toy drive makes it possible for the 1500 to 3000 children of our active duty soldiers at Fort Irwin to have a merry Christmas.  We have been told by Fort Irwin personnel that without the toys collected, many kids would not get anything at Christmas.

If you know someone in the military, then you know that their monthly earnings don’t leave much beyond trying to just provide the basics for a young family.  Without our efforts there are many kids who won’t have toys for the Holidays.

In the past, Inland Mopars had joined forces with other car shows to collect toys.  This year with COVID-19 eliminating large gatherings, the car shows that would have helped us with the toy gathering process have been cancelled.

The kids on base range in age from infants to teenagers so items are needed for both boys and girls of all ages.

We deliver the collected toys to Fort Irwin on the second or third Sunday of December, which gives base personnel time to organize them by gender and age group.  A majority of the active duty soldiers and families are on Christmas leave the latter part of December; upon their return, toys are distributed the first Saturday in January, before the soldiers start the training for the first incoming rotation of troops prior to being deployed overseas.

In 2017 the owners of Extreme Automotive informed us of their intention to retire and relocate to Texas where their toy drive efforts would be focused on the military kids at Fort Hood.  Not wanting to abandon the kids at Fort Irwin, they asked if Inland Mopars would continue the toy drive efforts and, of course, we couldn’t say no.

We are a relatively small club with approximately 30 families.  We need your help.

Fort Irwin covers approximately 1000 square miles and is an ideal site for the Army’s premier National Training Center for the global war on terrorism.  The base’s primary mission is to provide realistic joint and combined arms training concentrated on developing soldiers, leaders and various units of America’s military to ensure each soldier, sailor, Marine and airman has the best training to bring them home safely from overseas deployments.  This is accomplished by pitting military units about to be deployed against the harsh environment and a determined and menacing opposing force (OPFOR) under conditions similar to those encountered while on deployment.  The intense training provided at Fort Irwin helps ensure the safe return of our warriors from overseas deployments.

The kids of the OPFOR soldiers are without their dads or moms for three continuous weeks out of every four weeks while their parent is out in the desert providing specialized training.  This goes on all year around for the two-year cycle their parent is stationed at Fort Irwin.

Thank you for helping to bring a little joy to these families during the Holidays.
