Stepping Stones International is a Botswana NGO serving the country's most vulnerable youth. We are a non-profit organisation, fully dependent on donors.
What?
Each month we spend a substantial amount of our funding (around $400) on electricity. Money that can be spent in a better way.
It is time for change! Our dream is to go green and transition completely to solar power.
Why?
- Sun Potential: Botswana is one of the countries with the most sun hours in the world, allowing very efficient use and high yield of solar panels.
- Return on Investment: The expected turnaround of investment is 7 years. Therefore, it is not only an idealistic choice but also a financially smart one.
- Sustainable: We can minimise our carbon footprint, combat climate change and help leave a healthy planet for our (grand)children.
- Reliable Power Supply: We no longer have to rely on the unreliable power supply. No more daily power cuts that disrupt our work!
- Better Use of Donor Funds: The money we receive from donors can be spent on activities that directly have positive impact on our beneficiaries.
- Lead by Example: We hope that by going green, our beneficiaries, communities, partners and our government are stimulated and encouraged to follow our example.
How?
A hybrid solar power system combines access to power generated by solar panels and access to a backup energy supply through batteries (needed in the event of power interruptions).
An investment of around $35,000 is needed (BWP 350,000) for this system. We aim to fundraise $10,000 through crowdfunding.
