We hope that you and your families are staying healthy and safe during these challenging times.

Sokoji has been in its current location on Laguna St. for nearly 40 years and the exterior and interior of the building are in great need of many repairs and updating. There is much physical wear and tear of the building exterior and interior, such as leaking rooflines resulting in peeling pillars, decaying wooden fencing in the front and side of the building, plumbing and appliance issues, etc.

We are also focusing on improving security for the temple, such as heightening the fencing around the perimeter of the parking lot, adding gates to the front of the temple, adding more exterior lighting, digitizing the security cameras, and repairing the exterior doors and windows.

We cannot do all this alone. We need your assistance to complete these repairs and improvements so that we can continue to provide a safe place for our members and friends.

We understand that donating money is not always possible in these challenging times. We do appreciate any financial help you can offer.

Sokoji will be celebrating its 90th anniversary next year and with your support, we will have the ability to continue to have a strong, positive presence to cultivate and celebrate Sokoji’s history and culture within the San Francisco Japantown community and beyond.

1934年に主にサンフランシスコ日本町の日系移民の為に創立された桑港寺は、日系人コミュニティの心の拠り所としてのみならず、日本文化の保持、仏教・禅の布教の場として発展を続けてきました。

桑港寺は現在の場所に移転して４０年近く経とうとしていますが、建物の外部および内部は多くの修繕と改装を必要としています。

建物の外部および内部には、屋根の漏れによる柱の剥がれ、建物の正面および側面にある木製の塀の腐敗、配管や設備の問題など、多くの物理的な劣化が見受けられます。

また、寺院のセキュリティ向上にも注力しております。駐車場の周囲のフェンスを高くし、寺院の正面にゲートを設置し、より多くの外部照明を設け、セキュリティカメラをデジタル化し、外部のドアや窓を修理する予定です。

桑港寺は来年２０２４年には、創立９０周年を迎えます。この節目を祝うことで、サンフランシスコ日本町において日本文化と伝統行事を継続する、コミュニティにおける力強い存在であり続けることができるのです。
