Ultrasound probe - Softpower clinic

Donation protected
As a part of the Mount Sinai Pediatrics global health program, my coresident Jenn and I will be working at the Soft Power Health Allan Stone Community Health Clinic near Jinja, Uganda. Our primary role will be working on a malnutrition program which provides high energy milk (HEM) as a nutritional supplement to malnourished and wasted children ages 0-12.

In discussing needs with clinic staff, though, it was raised that they would like to begin offering ultrasound at the clinic to solidify their diagnoses or screen for diseases. So far, Dr. Edgar, the radiologist has begun to offer prenatal ultrasounds for pregnant women, but he would like to expand his services to include ultrasounds of the lung, abdomen, and other body parts. In order to do so, he needs a new linear ultrasound probe to replace one that was not functional.

That's where you come in! We would love to help the clinic raise money to replace the linear ultrasound probe so that they can do ultrasounds at the clinic and save patients from a trip into town. We would also like to schedule teaching sessions where Dr. Edgar can teach staff (including us!) how to perform and interpret different types of ultrasounds so that modality which is radiation-free, cheap, and easy in terms of diagnostic imaging can be widely used in the clinic.
