SOAR- Kenya Humanitarian Mission

During the first week of September 2019, a dozen of us will travel to Nairobi, Kenya for a self-organized, volunteer humanitarian mission to support the Imani Rehabilitation Agency, a home for abandoned children in Kenya. During our week, we will make an enduring impact on the lives of these orphans by providing them with educational activities, as well as giving them food, medical supplies, clothes, school supplies, and most importantly, our love.
WHY WE SEEK FUNDING...
This is a volunteer mission that we planned and are responsible for the costs of our trip. Our group has already secured a portion of the project costs through the wonderful support of the Caring Crew nonprofit organization.
To help us subsidize the remainder of our trip costs and supplies, we are seeking your support to help make this life-changing trip possible.
Your support will help bring hope and faith (Swahili translation is “Imani”) to orphaned children in Africa.
WHY SEPTEMBER...
A year ago, one of our volunteers (Anna Berger) had an idea to spend her 40th birthday doing a humanitarian project. After speaking with a friend, Christopher, SOAR Kenya was conceived as Kenya is his hometown and he had a friend that was a success story raised by Imani. After securing a grant from Caring Crew, plans were set in motion. In July, Anna was blessed to visit the Ronald McDonald House in Rome where she met the founder of Imani, Faith, and an Imani child who she brought there to receive medical treatment. Anna saw, first- hand, the care and support that she and the organization provides to these children that they love as their own. The sound of the child’s pure laughter was proof enough that with our support, these children can flourish.

Imani is a charitable children institution (CCI) registered with the Ministry of Gender, children and social development. Imani as a CCI has 3 welfare programs which serve as extensive custody for the children based on their individual needs: (1) Abandoned, (2) Orphaned without any known responsible guardian, (3) Imprisoned Parents, (4) Lost and Abused Children, (5) Of Street Families. Their mission is to improve the situation of orphaned and vulnerable children by providing care and protection, guide the reintegration process into society and address the factors leading to their situation.
