Snowdon Diver 2022

I am raising funds for 3 good causes: Llanberis Mountain Rescue, a local child* in need of medical help and the Historical Diving Society.

 

The Historical Diving Society owns and runs the Diving Museum in Gosport - a family friendly, volunteer-run museum educating children and their families about the history of underwater exploration. They also try to engage with community projects as often as they can – such as this – and it is quite a challenge.

 

It will start with a dive in historic diving dress in Llyn Padarn at the foot of Snowdon and over the next two days, climb to the summit. Standard Dress (as it is called) weighs 80kg. It is no mean feat.

The little girl we are supporting is called Cadi Owen Evans.
She was born and raised in Llanberis and attends the local school.
     Cadi was born with severe profound bilateral deafness, meaning that she is deaf in both ears. We discovered Cadi was deaf when she was only 4 weeks old. Following many different tests, we all agreed the best way forward was to try Cadi with some hearing aids. At 8 weeks old, Cadi had her first pair, but after a couple of months wearing them, disappointingly, they didn't work for her. So on her first birthday, Cadi was transferred from Ysbyty Gwynedd to Manchester Royal Infirmary, where the hospital specialist installed a cochlear implant. Thankfully, Cadi had passed all the tests to have this type of implant procedure.
     On 25 November 2019, Cadi went under anaesthetic to have the first part of the cochlear implanted into her head. This was a terrifying time because the operation was so close to her brain. Still, after being in the theatre for 3 hours, and much to our relief, the doctor came out to us and said it was a successful operation.
     On 13 December 2019, Cadi had the second part of the cochlear done; this time, they put a hearing aid on her ear and a magnet clasped to her head. Then they switched everything on, and after a couple of minutes, we saw a slight reaction from her. We all knew the operation had been successful.
Thanks to this fantastic hearing equipment, Cadi is now 3 years old and loving life.
    Of course, Cadi will soon start full-time school, and because she is so far behind with her speech, she will need all the help she can get. We are trying to collect money to send her to school with a clever device called the mini mic 2+. This little device costs around £2000-£3000 but will help the school talk directly to Cadi in an entire classroom.
   Cadi's parents desperately want their little girl to have the same advantages as her other fully hearing classmates and ask you to kindly donate a small amount to this magnificent charity.
