Build a Sustainable Farm Community

Donation protected
We have the amazing opportunity to purchase the 83 acre farm we have been leasing for the last 3 years.

Snouts and Sprouts  Farm is an organic pasture based livestock farm. We are committed to organic, sustainable, humane practices that produce the healthiest meat possible for our family and community. However, more then just producing food our goal is make the farm a hub for community resources and education.

In addition to selling our organic meats, eggs, and vegetables. We have started running educational programs for kids, and establishing a Forest, Farm, and Field School on the property. Our hope is to help connect the next generation to nature and farming as much as possible.

We believe strongly  in the importance of connecting the community with where their food comes from. More and more of the world sees their meat as coming from vacuum-packed trays, bathed in florescent light. By reconnecting people to the farm we can reestablish humane practices of raising meat as a cultural norm. Our goal is to make the farm a place for like minded people to connect, bring their kids, and grow the sustainable food movement.

To that end, we have built a small farm store in the top half of our barn where we can sell our farm products. This year we started  partnering with other local producers, to also sell their products at our store. This provides more reach for these other small businesses and connects our customers to additional local resources.

We specialize in Heritage Breed livestock and Heirloom varieties of vegetables. This fullfils our desire to conserve these rare breeds and educate the community on the rich Heritage of the food we eat.

Our multispecies approach to farming provides a variety of products for our customers but more importantly it is a way to establish a sustainable eco system on the farm where each species of plant and animal supports and promotes the wellbeing of the other types.

Our Journey

3 years ago, with virtually no experience in farming we dove into rehabilitating this rundown old farm with nothing but an intense amount of conviction and passion to raise healthy organic meat for our growing family.

(mowing the overgrown pastures with a skidloader because a tractor couldn't make it into the field 2015)(our first summer farming in 2015, 8 months pregnant with our 2 year old in tow!)

In only 3 years the Farm has grown quickly. When we signed our lease, the fields were abandoned and over grown. There was no fencing or infrastructure of any kind.

We pulled up the saplings, mowed down the prickers and  carved the pastures back out  into lush green meadows. We now raise cows, pigs, turkeys, chickens and ducks all organically, out on pasture where they belong. We also grow organic herbs and vegetables along with organic feed for our animals. We have a successful summer and winter Meat and Egg CSA  in addition to selling our product as indivicual cuts diectly to consumers from the farm.

Now we have the opportunity to purchase the farm we have been leasing, but we need your help to do it. Farmland in our area is rapidly disappearing into developments and town homes. So despite our own stubborn nature, that wants to do everything ourselves, we are reaching out to the community to try and raise enough money to make it happen!

We have a purchase agreement signed with the family who currently owns the farm, and we are set to buy the farm this winter. However, as it stands, we would only be able to put the bare minimun down. This would lead to a crippling monthly mortgage payment that would suck all the resources from the farm. Without a higher down payment to lower our monthly mortage we are unlikely to make it through the next year.

Our Goal of 250K would allow us to pay the full down payment. Your support would guareentee financing and bring our monthly mortgage payments down to a managable level. It would also allow us to focus our resources and profits on the continued growth and rehabilitation of the farm. If we succeed we are sure the farm will become a strong and lasting cornerstone of the comminty

If we don’t raise enough the farm will be put up for sale and we will loose out on this incredible opportunity to keep this piece of land a thriving organic farm

So if you think what we are trying to do is worthwhile please donate! Every donation, be it $3, $25, or $100 is immensely helpful; each drop gets us closer to our goal! The only way to change to way the world eats is by taking one step at a time and supporting small-scale local producers.
