As many of you know, I am not much for social media. But today is different. Today I am stepping outside my comfort zone.
It was almost three years ago that my family and I moved to Greeneville, Tennessee. Around that time I met Janelle Hastings in the surgery unit of the hospital where we both worked. From that time on I've been impressed and blessed by her family and their love and dedication to God.
Near the beginning of October, Janelle shared that her younger son, Robert, had been fighting a nagging cough. The thinking was perhaps he had pneumonia or maybe just a chest cold. But even following a round of antibiotics the cough continued. So the next step was to get a chest x-ray. The results were not good. The Radiologist confirmed their fears. Robert had a large mediastinal/chest mass that was compressing one of his lungs and was wrapped around his aorta. Further tests confirmed the diagnosis. Sitting in front of an Oncologist at Vanderbilt University, Robert was told he had B-Cell Lymphoma. It was Robert's 21st Birthday.
Treatment began immediately. That's the good news.The bad news is that the drug used to treat Robert is on national shortage. So prayers are needed on Robert's behalf for both drug availability and healing!
Predictably, Robert's hair is taking a leave of absence. And also predictably, friends of Robert are wanting to support him on his road to recovery as there will be many expenses that insurance does not cover.
So please make plans to join Robert's Road to Regrowth (we're talking hair and health here), Sunday, November 17, at 5:30 pm at Greeneville Adventist Academy where we will host a fundraising event for Robert. There are a lot of people who will pay good money to see someone else's head get shaved to help keep Robert company during this trial!
This fundraiser will be live-streamed for those unable to make it. For those who can attend, bring cash!! There might be someone there whose head you would give a lot to shave! Here's your chance! We will have an auction with the winning bidder getting to shave that person's head!!
Our goal is to raise $10,000. All donations will go directly to the family. Any
donation is greatly appreciated. Regardless of amount raised we are going to #bravetheshave!
