Snacks & Moose TPLO Surgery

Hey friends!

These sweet boys are Snacks & Moose. Snacks is a 9 year old Pitbull Catahoula mix and Moose is a 5 year old Mastiff Pit mix. They are best buds and have followed in each others footsteps unfortunately. Somehow over the last six months they have torn all four back cruciate ligaments. This means four separate Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy surgeries. The full recovery time is between 10-16 weeks per leg and will require daily and weekly physio appointments, some days off work, controlled slow walks, muscle atrophy, pain medication, baby-proofing/gating our homes and a whole lot of adjustments! We have been given an estimate of $5,897.00 per surgery. This also includes the cost of x-rays, physio and medication during the healing period. We were expecting to have to operate on one leg, but after numerous vet visits, have found out that we have to do surgery on both.

Before the injuries, Moose and Snacks spent their days hiking and adventuring, living very abundant lives and joining us wherever we went! After suffering from their ruptures, Moose and Snacks are showing signs of rapid arthritis, limping, dragging limbs, restricted movements, pain and discomfort as well as muscle atrophy. The are limited to short mainly leashed walks with little interaction with other dogs to avoid any further injury that may happen during play. Aside from their mobility, it has also affected their overall moods because of the pain and lifestyle adjustments.

We love our dogs, they are still happy go lucky boys that have a lot of gusto left in them. We are aware that these are major surgeries and will take a lot of time and care with the end goal of allowing our dogs to fully enjoy their lives and frolic through the forests together again. The TPLO surgeries are 97% effective and we have heard positive feedback that our dogs will return to their usual selves once they are all healed up.

Moose had his first surgery on March 1st and Snacks is booked for April 19th. Our goal is to raise $12,000 through the GoFundMe to help cover the cost of one leg each, while also organizing a couple of fundraising events so that we can contribute and everyone can enjoy! We will post details of upcoming events soon as well as update with photos of how the pups are doing. If we exceed our goal, we will donate the rest to another animal charity or pup who is in need!
