The Sankat Mochan Yoga Research Institute is a non-profit organization based in the small city of Vrindavan in northern India. Having roots in the local community that go back more than 35 years, the institute is known for its commitment to spreading yoga and its philosophy of life, providing education for needy children, giving to the poor, and caring for the environment. Vrindavan, though it is considered by many to be sacred and thus attracts numerous tourists and pilgrims, is also unfortunately quite poverty-stricken. Previously, we were using our income from teaching yoga to support our charitable activities, but now we are struggling to continue doing so because of the sheer amount of development work our institute requires, particularly infrastructural. From 2006 until 2017, we ran a school at our institute for the local children, free of cost, including free supplies and a daily lunch. Sadly, due to our expenses, we have been forced to discontinue classes for the time being. Currently, the expenditures we need your help with are the following:
-School supplies, such as uniforms, textbooks, writing utensils, etc.
-Constructing additional rooms for resident staff and yoga students to stay in
-Constructing a bathroom
-Utilities
-Repairing/reconstructing leaky, dilapidated roofs
-Repainting the premises
-And numerous other small renovation projects
Through your generosity, we hope to get our ashram in proper running condition. There will then be no need for us in the future to ask for donations, as we will again be able to sustain our charitable activities through our yoga services. And the more we can develop our institute and provide incentives like daily lunch, school supplies, field trips, extensive course offerings, etc, the more students will attend classes and get the education that is so desperately needed to pull their families out of the cycle of poverty. As donations come in, we will post photos and updates on what projects we are able to start. Please help us and consider making a donation today.
