When I started at the school in 2014 we had just over 100 students in music, and now, just 3 years later, we have over 200 students in the band alone. We despirately need to buy more instruments to continue to provide opportunities for all of the interested students. We are building the program and there are lots of passionate and enthusiastic students, but not enough equipment.
One of my main goals has been to make sure that money is never a reason a student can't participate in band. In order to be successful that means we need to maintain an inventory of the larger and more expensive instruments for students to use through the school.
These instruments require annual cleaning and maintenance, and eventual replacement after years of use. I have developed a multi-phase plan to keep the instruments we have in service, purchase new instruments to meet our growing needs, and have resources for future replacement. In the past 3 years I have worked to repair all of our existing instruments in the program to make them playable and available to students, so now it is time to purchase new instruments to meet our growth.
This year we have several students interested in playing tuba, horn and bassoon, but not enough instruments to go around.
We need these instruments now to get students started right away. To get by in the mean time we are using some spare mouthpieces and sharing instruments, but that means that students cannot take instruments home to practice and we wont be able to have everyone play together on the concerts.
Your generous donation will help the students coming into the program excited to learn music and play instruments.
