Welcome to the Smoking Jacket Magazine Go Fund Me.
With the closure of Pipes Magazine's physical magazine, there seems to be a hole in the community as many expressed sadness in seeing it go away.
So, I believe there to be enough community interest among pipe and cigar users, primarily, to start up a small press magazine catering to those old ( and YOUNG) codgers who, like me, still prefer the feel of paper, when I can get it.
I would use the funds to offset printing costs, as well as help offset the cost of a members website, with open content and member privileges, and try to pay for quality writing. If that all gets done, I will upgrade my computer and software to better handle the demand of an ongoing magazine.
This will be an ongoing project if I can get the initial funding to start, and I am planning to have the first issue in the mail by the Autumnal Equinox (Sept 21). I will need a month to compose the magazine and 3 months to compile articles so I would need funding by mid-May to make that deadline.
In Smoking Jacket Magazine's first incarnation it developed a following of over 700 people. I intend to produce the magazine with quality content and NO intrusive advertising, that means an investment in Smoking Jacket Magazine is an investment in a guaranteed quality product. The magazine itself will be a 48-60 page, 8.5" x 11", saddle stitched (unless this goes well, then I'll upgrade to perfect binding), magazine with a pull-out central advertising panel. The exact length of the magazine will depend on interest (the more investors, the longer I'll make the magazine, as I will have more funding for articles), but is guaranteed 48 pages, at least, with 4 cover pages, so that's 44 pages of quality articles and reviews.
I am a disabled retiree who finds himself with too much time and not enough activity and I love talking, writing and researching about this hobby of ours, and I feel this magazine will bring my joy at the hobby to you. Hence I am not motivated by profit, but rather to bring a quality product to life at the minimum expense of the Subscriber.
That having been said, thank you for reading, I hope you agree that the community needs a magazine like this and you will show your enthusiasm by supporting the project.
