Support Craig’s Journey

We are raising funds for Craig who sustained severe and life changing injuries after a major accident. As a result of the injuries Craig has a brain injury and has been left paralysed along with lots of other complications that are still being assessed.

On Thursday 27th June 2019 my husband Craig Dennis who is 25 years old sadly fell through a roof whilst helping on his family farm. Craig fell approximately 20ft down onto the concrete beneath him.

Craig was taken for an emergency CT scan at RD&E hospital which revealed the devastating extent of his injuries which included a severe bleed to the brain, multiple fractures to his skull, major spinal damage and other injuries and complications.

He was then rushed to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth to undergo emergency surgery on his brain from the specialist head trauma and neurological team, due to the severity of the swelling of his brain he required further surgery within 24 hours.

The next three and a half weeks saw Craig in intensive care in Derriford where many further procedures, scans and medication were used to control the swelling to Craig’s brain and to save his life.

Once Craig’s brain injury became stable and safe enough the spinal team began to focus on his spinal trauma. This involved a nine hour operation to stabilise his spine which went according to plan but unfortunately due to the severity of his spinal injury Craig remains paralysed.

Craig is now out of intensive care and is on the neurological ward in Derriford awaiting further treatment, which will be the start of his long journey of rehabilitation.

The level of rehabilitation and recovery that Craig requires is complex due to the severity and combination of his injuries. Frustratingly, he is currently waiting for a bed in a specialist rehabilitation unit which could be anywhere in the UK. It is going to be several months before Craig can return to our home.

His rehabilitation is going to be unimaginably tough and it is not a journey I can bare for him to go through alone. Juggling the business which I have worked so hard to build up alongside the need to be with Craig through his rehabilitation is going to be difficult, but given the physical and mental challenges Craig is facing, it is incredibly important to us both to be together through this. Inevitably this is going to strain us financially with lost earnings, travel and accommodation costs. All of this is before we even think about the huge cost of adapting our home.

Craig is known for his outgoing and kind hearted nature, as well as being hardworking and a huge part of the community. Craig has always had a love for many sports, in more recent years his passion for rugby has shone through with an amazing result at the end of this season where by his captaincy at NTRFC saw them head into the highest division they have ever been in. Anyone who knows Craig will know how devasting it will be for him not to be able to play the sport he loves so much.

I would like to thank everyone for their huge amount of love, care and well wishes shown to Craig’s recovery over the past month. Now has come the time I would like to ask for your continued support and help to aid Craigs recovery and future care which after lots of meetings, discussions and research it is clear that this will cost well in excess of £75,000.

This is a massive amount of money I am asking to raise, but it will make a huge difference to Craig’s recovery, adapting our house and to give him the best possible chance of regaining as much independence as he can.

Craig would always be the first person to help and support people, so i am hoping you can find it within your hearts to help us along this very long and difficult journey.

All my love, Chloe x
