Smith Family Needs

Please allow me to introduce you to a family in need of help. They are Scott and Melissa Smith along with their 7 grandchildren whom they are now raising. Their youngest daughter and her husband both passed away within 2 weeks of each other in Jan. 2016, she from a heart attack and he from bone cancer. They left behind 3 children now ages 13 and 11. a girl and twin younger brothers. Scott and Melissa have permanent custody of the children and have been raising them.
In July of this year their oldest daughter had her first heart attack, on Oct. 2 she had her 2nd and did not survive. She was a single mother of 4. A 16 yr old girl, and 3 boys ages 14, 10, and 4. Scott and Melissa have already been granted temporary custody of the children with the final hearing in May 2020.
Melissa also suffers from genetic heart disease. She has had and survived multiple heart attacks. She is currently being treated for the same vascular disease FMD (fibro muscular dysplasia), a rare condition which causes twisting of arteries. unfortunately this condition is not rare to this family.
Their grandchildren are all great kids, good students, involved in extra curriculars and sports with big dreams. They all desperately want to remain together. The friends and family of Scott, Melissa and these kids are determined to aid them in this, but help is needed.
They currently live in a 3BR, 1Ba home. the dining room was quickly changed to a 4th BR but the home is just too small as you can imagine. Melissa still requires further surgeries and physician is nearly 2 hour away. Much travel remains. They will incur more legal fees associated with final custody and just the costs associated with a newly formed family of 9. The search is also on for a larger home better able to meet their needs. All monies raised for them will be put to use in those areas.
The determination of this family to remain as one is beyond description. I ask all who read this to help get behind this awesome family that has seen too much tragedy.
