My name is Cameron Golman, and I decided on my birthday to combine my two favorite passions. First, my admiration for travel, and second, my desire to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic, chronic degenerative lung disease that also attacks the pancreas. Sadly, this disease shortens a patient’s life expectancy. It deprives young people of their tomorrows. However, this campaign is about honoring the individuals who struggle to breathe daily and suffer from malabsorption. All donations go directly to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, whose mission is all about awarding more tomorrows to those diagnosed with this incurable disease. Unfortunately there are many young adults who have lost their battle with CF. Gratefully, there are so many more patients living with hope for a cure. In honor of this fundraising initiative, I want to share with you a story of hope. Much of my life, I have felt on the outside looking in on my family and friends. I took having good health for granted until I witnessed my sister’s daily struggles never preventing her from accomplishing all of her academic, athletic, and career goals. She really set the bar high for the Golman Gang; in fact, I felt quite handicapped having to compete with my sister. The latter never prevented me from learning the true meaning of perseverance and integrity, because of the example my older sister set. My sister Randell is the most resilient and determined human I have ever been fortunate to come across. She is, and will always be, my greatest role for living life to its fullest. Randell graduated business school at a Big10, competed in tennis and soccer, and even became a producer at WGN WINNING TWO EMMYS! The sun always shines when Randell is around, and for that I am truly grateful. In honor of my sister and all of those that are affected by CF, I ask that on my birthday that you consider sharing this campaign with your family, peers, colleagues, and social media or supporting this fundraiser. This campaign’s success is defined not by its monetary donation, but by the awareness raised and reinforced-commitment to cure Cystic Fibrosis. In return for your generosity and support, I have decided to match the courage, fearlessness, and will-power of everyone diagnosed with CF by undertaking extreme, perilous, challenges on my journey abroad. I am going to strive to match the strength and courage of everyone battling or caring for a loved-one diagnosed with CF. My passion for travel drives me to experience life-risking adventures. On my travels, instead of visiting museums or tourist spots, I seek extreme excursions that push the limits. Many of the activities include mountain climbing, cliff jumping, caving, camping/hiking, off-roading, and even wild animal encounters….just to name a few. My journeys have brought me to the brink of death after being lost in the mountains in East Russia, to the desolation that is Chernobyl, to Race Car Driving in Estonia, and Cliff Diving in Slovenia. This trip will be even more risk-bearing in the hopes of raising awareness and contributions The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
