Jim's medical fund

Dad (Jim) just turned 66. He has devoted his life to raising a family of 16 children, many of which were adopted internationally and through the foster care program in Spokane. Additionally, he has always fought for children’s rights as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for kids within the Spokane community. Over the last few years, his health has declined rapidly since being diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis, Polycythemia, Pancreatic Insufficiency, and Pemphigus Vulgaris. The latter causing painful blistering all over his skin. Inclusion Body Myositis (similar to ALS) causes muscle degeneration throughout different areas of the body. Specialists tell him he will be in a wheelchair full-time soon, as his muscles will only grow weaker day by day. Doctors say the cause of these diseases is idiopathic, a fancy way of saying they have no idea why this onset has occurred. Even amidst battling these diseases, when his own face is bloated from the necessary prednisone that predisposes him to brittle bones, organ deterioration and internal bleeding from falling, dad always flashes a smile.
Dad is not one to ask for help. He has always striven for ways to support his family. Now he resides with the youngest four teenage girls still at the house and our loving mother who also suffers from an autoimmune disease.
Dad was a dentist, taking in patients from all walks of life and treating every patient with the utmost respect and humility. Due to financial missteps and hardships, he does not have the savings needed to support him through this medical crisis. Although the eldest siblings are united to support him, his future health situation comes at a high cost. We are asking for $8,000
to go towards our contributions to remodel the bedroom and bathroom area to make it wheelchair accessible, as well as the ability to obtain a hoyer lift to move him from the bed to the wheelchair, and to lift him to and from the toilet and shower. Soon he will not be able to do the simplest daily tasks we so often take for granted. Although he continues to try to put mind over matter, his body continues to fail him and his mobility diminishes while the pain he endures intensifies. Without this funding, in the near future he will not be able to get into the bathroom, nor have space for a hoyer he will so desperately need to lift him.  Any support is greatly appreciated. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
