Important Update - October 2018: I started this Go Fund Me campaign in early 2017 to help 81 year old rockabilly/roots music legend, Sleepy LaBeef and his wife Linda get through a financial crisis caused by Linda's rare nuero-endocrine cancer diagnosis, severe complications and subsequent treatment. They were having trouble making ends meet and really needed our help. Together, his friends and fans raised more than $12,000 which was a huge help to them.
Things were getting better for a while, and Linda's first few cancer scans came back clean. She was able to return to work and things seemed to be getting back to normal. In an unexpected twist of fate, just a few months ago, Sleepy's biological son Robert Spencer, a California firefighter, found Sleepy through DNA testing and came and met with Sleepy and Linda just a couple of months ago and they have already become very close. However, right as this happy event occurred, Linda was met with some bad news after her latest tests.
Unfortunately, Linda's cancer has returned, this time to her liver, and she is in the hospital once again. The bills are already mounting up and they have very little coming in. Throughout this process, Sleepy has been caring for their four grandchildren and working as much as time will allow, which is not much. They are good people, and do not like asking for help, so I am making the ask on their behalf once again. They are in a serious situation, and anything you can contribute would be incredibly helpful. I am raising our goal to $25,000 and hope that we can generate the remaining $12K to help them get through this.
I have known Sleepy and Linda for 40 years. They are sweet, unselfish people who have given immeasurable love and support to their friends and family over the years, not to mention Sleepy's amazing contributions to American Roots music in a career spanning 60 years. We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Peace and Love to you all.
