Support Survivors of Sexual Assault

Tax deductible
Hello everyone! My name is Sarah Leduc and I am a student at Quinnipiac University with a major in Biomedical Science and a minor in Microbiology/Immunology with a Pre-Med designation. Did you know that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month? Last April I fundraised for Day One and raised SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! Thank you to everyone who donated! This year I am trying to raise even more money for this very important cause. Day One's mission is to reduce the prevalence of sexual abuse and violence, and to support and advocate for those affected by it. Day One's vision is to create a community that is free of sexual abuse and violence through leadership and action that is responsive to the needs of the community. Day One was established in 1973 by a group of women concerned about the increasing problem of sexual assault and the lack of services and information available to victims and the public.

Did you know....
- 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men are victims of rape or attempted rape in their lifetime.
- Transgender individuals are at a higher risk for sexual violence.
- Native Americans are at the greatest risk for sexual assault.
- Every 73 seconds an American is sexually assaulted.

Impacts on Survivors:
- 94% of victims experience PTSD after their assault
- 30% of women who are raped contemplate suicide
- 13% of women who are raped attempt suicide
- Victims are 10 times more likely to use major drugs
- 70% of victims experience “moderate to severe” distress

As the issue of sexual assault becomes greater in our state, this nonprofit is running out of funds in order to keep the business alive and thriving for members of the community. It relies on the support of grants and citizens in order to continue to help survivors. For some, Day One is their only access to therapy and it would be heartbreaking for people to have to pause their healing journey. It is so important for us all to come together and raise money for programs like Day One. My goal is to raise $7,000 from April 1st to the 30th. Please share the link to this Go Fund Me on any of your social medias accounts! Thank you for your support and please contact me with any questions or concerns.
