Please donate to this family who lost their father and husband.  We are raising money to help them with the day to day expenses now that Darcy will be the sole provider.  It will help with mortgage, car payments, insurance and food for the family.  Thank you in advance for your continued support for Darcy, Madi, Emma and Sophia.

Joseph Robert Slavin (Joe), 45, of Woodbury, MN passed away on June 7, 2017.

Joe was born on October 24, 1971 in Fort Hood, TX to Bob and Nora (Kreidermacher) Slavin.  He grew up in Rollingstone, MN with his younger siblings, Mandy Duerr and Josh Slavin.   Rollingstone is where his love is for baseball began, spending hours and hours on the field. During his younger days he played legion ball and high school baseball.   He graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1990.  Even after graduation, he continued to love the sport while playing on the Winona Chiefs.  Joe obtained his Bachelors and Masters degree in Education at Winona State University. He started his professional career in ISD 622 (Maplewood, Oakdale, North St. Paul) in 1995 teaching at John Glenn Middle School.  On November 18, 1995 he married his high school sweetheart, Darcy Hager.  Joe worked in multiple positions thru 622 including a teacher at Skyview Elementary, principal of Carver and Richardson Elementary, supervisor of educational programs and the principal of Skyview Middle School. In 1996, he and Darcy bought their first house in Apple Valley, MN.  During this time, he earned his principal license thru St. Mary’s University.  In 2001, they gave birth to their first daughter, Madalyn Ann Slavin. In 2002, the family moved to Woodbury, MN.  This is where they settled and welcomed two more daughters, Emma Jean (2003) and Sophia Catherine (2006).  He was now officially outnumbered and the real fun began!

Life during this time was filled with changing diapers, playing princess, tea parties, Jellystone, mini vans, family vacations and not being able to use the boat at all! In the years to follow, the girls grew and before we knew it they were playing all kinds of sports. Joe stepped up to the plate and was the girls coach and was constantly in the backyard with them getting extra practice in. For years it was Joe and his four girls and then along came his 4 legged male companion, Bode.  The girls still outnumbered the boys, but it made Joe happy knowing he wasn’t down four to one.  When Joe wasn’t watching a game he was coaching one.  Joe always had a love for kids and it really showed whether at school or on the field or the court. He coached and taught in a way that was easy for the kids to understand and made it fun. Joe volunteered with the East Ridge Athletic Association by coaching basketball and softball and was on the ERAA Softball Board.  He also served the community as a member of the South Washington County School Board.  His other accomplishments included obtaining his Superintendent Licensure and being adjunct faculty at Concordia University.

In his free time Joe could make a mean Sunday omelet, fix any technology problem, continue to cheer for the Vikings, and find a bird with Bode. But his true passion was spending time with Darcy, Madi, Emma and Sophia.

He has touched the lives of so many through his service in the schools, youth sports and community.

Thank you Joe for making life not just good, but GREAT!
