Please help our grandparents rebuild their home of 41 years. This Father's Day 6/15/14 we planned a fish fry (which we have done for years) for the amazing men of our family. Especially for our 81 year old grandfather. He just recently underwent two heart surgeries (and is still scheduled to have one more). He wasn't feeling well enough to go to his favorite restaurant (Joe's Crab Shack) so we decided that it would be a great idea to bring Joe's Crab Shack to him! After we returned to their home with the seafood to cook, what happened next was unimaginable! The propane tank that we have used for years to do our fish fries caught fire under our car port and the fire spread to half the home in a matter of minutes.. Smoke damage was also sustained to the entire home. We were quickly assisted by amazing neighbors in the help to get our grandfather out of the house who is an above the knee amputee. We were also able to save our dog, Benji, but did not reach our cat, Smokey on time. Channel 10 news arrived and interviewed the family and completely made a mockery of our story, titling the article, "Family Cat Dies in Miami Gardens House Fire." My grandparents did lose their beloved cat of 12 years and it was hard for them, but not harder then seeing their home of 41 years burning. We lost our belongings but most importantly our memories! Thank God we were all able to get out alive with minor injuries! We are so truly blessed! Even with all of this happening my grandma and grandad are still able to keep the family strong! They are truly amazing people! UPDATE: Unfortunately our grandfather unexpetedly passed away 3 weeks after this incident sunday morning, July 6th. Now more then ever we have to rebuild this home for him, since he is not able to be here physically to see it. I am asking if we can please get some assistance in helping our grandma keep and rebuild their home. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
