On the morning of November 26, 2018, a fire erupted at the Pennsylvania Avenue home of Derek and Jenn Handelong, one of our own Slater families. The fire quickly spread throughout the residence, engulfing it in smoke. Sadly, these hard-working, life-long, valued members of our Slate Belt community lost their home and all of their possessions in the fire. Derek and Jenn are currently staying with friends in the community with their two children, Hunter (age 12) and Jacob (age 4). Thankfully, the family is together and safe; however they face a difficult chapter ahead as they begin to rebuild.
In the spirit of giving, members of the Slate Belt community. Including Slaters Youth Football, Basketball and Wrestling are coming together to raise funds for the family to assist with the costs and expenses of starting over. The Handelong’s hold a special place in our hearts and in this community. We are hoping you will open your HEART to this remarkable family and donate. Any donation or assistance is greatly appreciated. Together we can all work to give this loving Slater Family all the help they need during this difficult time.
