Far West Regionals Championship.
The Slammers FC B2000 soccer team qualified to represent Southern California in the Far West Regional Championship, which is taking place in Hawaii in June: http://championships.usyouthsoccer.org/West/

This is an opportunity of a lifetime for the very talented, and hard working Slammers FC players, it's truly a dream coming through after many years of hard work and dedication to soccer.

Unfortunately it is also a very expensive trip, which many of the players can't afford. We have had an amazing first week with donations from multiple people and through different channels. We are now "only" $3,000 away from the goal. Thanks for all your help !

Here are some truly amazing life stories from some of the players, and we hope you'll be able to help these boys pursue their soccer goals, and get a life changing experience with their team.

PLAYER STORY:
My life changed when I was hit with a cavernoma in my head. A cavernoma is a blood clot in your head that makes you have seizures. One night I had a seizure and it made one of them pop. It exploded in my brain when I had a seizure and it caused a blood clot in my brain. I had to get surgery and I was told that there was a high possibility that I could never play soccer again. They had me out for a year and that could have been it, I could have quit soccer as a whole but I did not. I didn’t let it bring me down. I worked hard to recover during that year, and after a year they let me play to see how I would do. They didn’t expect me to play at all anymore, but i proved them all wrong and we have now qualified for the Far West Regionals. Financially it's been very hard for my family as well, because my family stayed by my side during the brain surgery and recovery, and couldn't work at all.

PLAYER STORY:
I have a lot of goals and dreams I want to accomplish throughout my life. One of them is going to Hawaii with my soccer team, which I consider my second family. My family means everything to me, and they are always there to support me, but unfortunately my parents and family struggles, and so do I. Money has been a big issue in my hard working family, and my parents is struggling with paying the bills. I had to sell a fair amount of my belongings to be able to help my parents pay the bills, including groceries and day to day items. My mom got hurt at her last job, where she dislocated two discs in her spine and neck, and was not able to work for years. Throughout the years my mom finally recovered and got a job in a hair salon, which didn’t pay much, but it was something. Unfortunately my mom lost her job because of me, because I got injured during a soccer scrimmage where a boy head butted me right in the face leaving me with a broken nose and a concussion that lead me to a different path in my life. My life changed ever since, and my mom lost her job because she chose me over her job. I was out for two months without playing any sports and almost a month without school because of the concussion. I wasn’t able to read or memorize things for a while but I finally recovered. Soccer is my passion, and going to the Regionals in Hawaii means everything to me.

PLAYER STORY:
I’ll love to go to Hawaii with the team, but financially we can't afford the trip. My family and I have been through so much in the past years and now my grandma is raising my 3 little brothers and I, which has been very stressful for her. Some days I have to stay at home and miss my soccer practices because my grandma is constantly working, she has 2 jobs and is working from sun to dawn. It’s a constant battle raising 3 little ones and having to feed them and support them with anything they need. I’m just really grateful for my grandma and what she’s doing for me and my little brothers. My mom and dad have never really been in my life, and I’m very thankful for finding soccer, and I want to take advantage of my talent, every single minute i have with it, and I want to make my Mom ( grandma) happy. Thank you

PLAYER STORY:

Going to the Regionals is an amazing opportunity, but I know I can't afford the trip. I have worked nine years for this and I am very proud of getting to this point in soccer because this sport has been my get away from all the adversity around me. My mom is always telling me to never give up because she knows that we are not financially stable and have the advantages that others have, but I just have to make the best out of it. My mom has taught me how to become a warrior, which she is every day, because she has a life threatening heart decease and live everyday as if it was her last. This motivates me every single day to be the best person, student, athlete, etc, and going to Hawaii would be a life changing opportunity, and a dream come through. Soccer means the world to me.

PLAYER STORY
I grew up with my mom and my 2 year older brother. I grew up with little money and with a single mother working every day (but sadly without a job currently). Rent is a problem every month because it’s difficult for a single mother raising two kids. Home was never the best because of many family and personal problems, but the problems never really got to me because I had soccer. It’s like a medicine, every time I was feeling sad, bad, or just overwhelmed with problems, soccer was my cure. As mentioned, I grew up with very little, and is working hard for everything. Most of my soccer equipment I got from my coach who provides me with soccer cleats, running shoes, sweaters, sweats, shirts, which I am very grateful for because my mom and I doesn’t have the money to pay for soccer equipment. This year our team have the opportunity to compete in the regionals, which I am very proud and excited about because this will be my first trip to a different state, and a unique life experience playing the sport I love.

PLAYER STORY:
I am one of five children, who migrated to the United States with my family. For the first years in The Unites States my parents worked picking fruit in plantations and at one point lived in a garage searching for better job opportunities. Those opportunities later came and my parents were paid better, but unfortunately for my Dad and the family his company shut down and he was left looking for another job as more and more bills kept piling up. After a significant amount of time searching for jobs, he was given a job that asked for harder labor and offered less than the last company. Despite the constant financial struggle, they managed to continuously meet their five children’s needs and provided way more than enough for all of us, however we can't afford my trip to Hawaii. I continue to use my passion for soccer as an escape from the struggles at home and a tool to drive me to do well in school. I am a 17 year old junior who has maintained a 4.0 and above GPA throughout my entire middle school and high school years, is verbally committed to play Division 1 soccer in college, and i’m now given the opportunity to be able to travel and play Regionals in Hawaii, which will be the greatest experience in my life.
