Skylar Fights Cancer Again

On Tuesday, June 9th, 2020, Skylar made a trip to the hospital. You see, Skylar has always been used to the hospital. She had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when she was only 4 and beat it! Nearly 5 years later she would have to find out she would need that same strength to do it all over again.

The doctors found her blood work to be abnormal that day. They had her come back the following day to do a bone marrow biopsy to confirm the hard truth; Skylar had relapsed. 5 years later she would have to face cancer again. By Friday, Skylar had surgery to place her port back in (central line to get all her chemotherapy) & had begun her cancer treatment. The doctors had also tested her spinal fluid. Not only is her bone marrow making 76% cancerous cells, it had found its way into her spinal fluid too.

Skylar will be spending at least the next 4 weeks in the hospital undergoing several tough (and oftentimes doubled dose) chemo sessions than she had the first time. With the leukemia cells also spreading into her spinal fluid, she will also be getting extra spinal tap chemo sessions and also likely to receive radiation.

Skylar's mom had recently been laid off during COVID. It made the news even more devastating that Skylar had recently lost her insurance coverage. All money will be used for the cost of medical coverage that isn't covered, added travel expenses for the parents during the next 4 weeks, food cost for a 4 week medical stay and additional unexpected cost when it comes to medicine.

Skylar has seen her fair share of the hospital. As she said- "I beat cancer once and I can do it again." ALL PROCEEDS WILL BE DONATED TO NAYELI RODRIGUEZ HERNANDEZ AS THE ACTING BENEFICIARY TO PAY FOR ALL MEDICAL BILLS AND LIVING EXPENSES.
