SkiTour 2020

Donation protected
This past spring I made the decision to move to Canmore. After working with Team R.A.D during the 18/19 season while still based out of Thunder Bay making the move felt like the right step to put me in the best position to succeed on the ski trails. Unfortunately this season I found myself without federal or provincial carding for the first time after narrowly missing Own The Podium targetted results at World Championships last winter. Living in Canmore came with increased expenses and my solution was to eliminate costly summer training camps and maintain a steady job at a local business. As well, on top of my time spent working at the Bicycle Cafe, I worked as a coach and ski instructor for Canmore Nordic.

Moving into the race season I was confident in my budget to cover the cost of living, and domestic travel and racing expenses for the entire 19/20 season. In the past, I have been very lucky that international trips I was a part of were heavily subsidized by Cross-Country Canada. Unfortunately, without this being a championship event, and the beginning of a rebuilding phase for Nordiq Canada (CCC) the trip expenses have fallen almost entirely on the athletes.

The budgeted cost of the SkiTour 2020 and Falun World Cup trip gave by Nordiq Canada is $4,700. The cost of this world cup period is well beyond my budget for the season and unfortunately, beyond my means. Before the tour, I was lucky enough to gain some support for this trip from friends and family and have a decent portion of the fee accounted for, however, if you are able to contribute in any way it would be greatly appreciated. I like to try and be as self-sufficient as possible while pursuing my racing career but the support of many kinds is often what makes teams and individuals great and right now I am in a position where I can not fulfill this alone.

The SkiTour wrapped up last weekend, it was a very physically and logistically demanding event comprised of 6 stages in 9 days and nearly 100kms of racing in 4 different locations. As well, given its location in Norway and Sweden, the host nations fielded very large teams which made for extremely competitive racing. I finished the Tour in 43rd overall highlighted by a 37th place finish only 6 seconds out of the coveted top 30 in a 34km mass start skate race in Meraker Norway.

I am now back in Canmore preparing for World Cup Finals right here later in March which will be a great opportunity to build on my results in the SkiTour with the home soil advantage.

Thank You for taking the time to read my story and consider supporting me, a small contribution can go a long way with momentum from a community and will be greatly appreciated. At the end of my campaign I will giveaway World Cup bibs to the top five contributors, and will be sure to get in touch with everyone that is able to support in any way.
