"Skitish" Student Film Project

Donation protected
Hi, this is Cara Robbins, the producer of the short film "Skit/ish" on behalf of the entire production team!

We're a group of budding filmmakers at Cleveland State University, and we're thrilled to be working on our Production III project-- but we can't do it alone. We have big goals and lots of creative energy, and we're looking for people who want to get involved in the creative process through a financial contribution.

So What is "Skit/ish"?
"Skit/ish", written and directed by Dan McRaven, is not your traditional narrative student film. Taking inspiration from filmmakers such as Jordan Peele and Bob Odenkirk who got their directorial debuts in comedic sketches, "Skit/ish" is a compilation of unique skits.

The goal of "Skit/ish" is simply to provide quirky and absurd humor that delights in a refreshing non-meaning. It revels in existentialism. The meaning behind each skit is simple-- relax, enjoy, and smile.

The hijinks in these sketches include (but are not limited to):
  • A cursed and mysterious elevator
  • Two college students on a bad Lego drug trip
  • An office filled with toddlers
  • A 1920's-inspired ballroom dance
  • and much more

Why is "Skit/ish" Important to Us?
Even though we're working on this project for Cleveland State's film school, this project is not simply fulfilling some classroom requirements for us. We're deeply passionate about the concept and goals of this film.

The structure of "Skit/ish" allows for plenty of creative freedom-- since there are so many different sketches, there is something for everyone to find meaning and passion in. Our goal with this project was to take the collaborative nature of film to a new level. We intentionally made sure that there are plenty of different aesthetics, themes, and unique characters to ensure that every type of filmmaker at CSU could find something that resonates with them.

This approach ensures that there is no exclusive creative control from just the director or producer-- instead, there is a broad and diverse range of creative voices interwoven through each sketch.

And we wouldn't have it any other way. Because of its very nature, it's a project that many on the team have a deep personal connection to.

So Where's All That Money Going To?
We get it-- $1,400 sounds like quite a bit for a student film. And to be fair, it is. But this is an ambitious project. We have a large cast and crew, plenty of locations to secure, and a long list of shoot dates to get through. We have plenty of ambition and creative energy, but college students aren't exactly known for their bottomless wallets.

Any money that we receive will go towards:
  • Props
  • Costumes
  • Set Dressing
  • Location Rental fees
  • Catering, craft services, and other necessary provisions for cast and crew
  • Possible entrance fees to film festivals
  • And if we have enough funds left over, we'd love to through an appreciative event and film debut for our cast and crew as a thank you for their dedication.

Any amount that you can contribute, whether big or small, is greatly appreciated. All funds donated will be put directly into the project in one of the categories specified above, and nowhere else.

Ever Wanted to See Your Name on the Big Screen?
We of course want to make sure that we show our gratitude and appreciation for every person who wants to participate in funding this project.

Everyone who donates to "Skit/ish" will receive credit on the final cut of the film.
  • Donations under $100 will receive a "Special Thanks" credit
  • Donations over $100 will receive an "Executive Producer" credit

All donors will also receive the final version of the film. We will post a link to the final product on this GoFundMe page when it's complete. We'll also make sure to send out an email with the final cut included to anyone who provides an email along with their donation.

What Are All These Photos and Videos Attached?
You're looking at a whole bunch of behind-the-scenes photos from our test shoot last November! We look like we're having a lot of fun, don't we? The clip included is an exclusive first look at our test demo.

As our project progresses, we'll make sure to add more photos and updates.

We're so excited to have you along on our journey!
