The days, weeks and months after the death of Tsukiko were undoubtedly the hardest of my life. The intense grief I experienced was so deep there were times I didn't know how I would survive. During this time, the grace and kindness of friends and family helped tremendously and luckily, Zuleika and I were able to lean on one another for support. As I continued through my natural grieving process, I found that having other people to talk to who have had similar experiences of loss had the greatest impact on my healing journey. A wonderful, small local organization called One Moment provided a safe place for a group of bereaved parents to come together and share, cry and heal.
The Compassionate Friends is a national organization with 600 chapters around the country. In small towns and large cities, bereaved parents, siblings, and grandparents meet together to talk, listen, share, and provide each other emotional support after the devastating death of a child. I know the importance of the work that they do and that is why I want to raise money for their cause in honor of the memory of my daughter Tsuki.
