Skeena Paddling Club Fundraiser

The Skeena Paddling Club needs your help! As the new Hub for paddling in the Northwest, we are looking to raise money to purchase the necessary paddling and safety equipment to get our local kids out on the water!

As a fundraising effort, this June local kayakers Ali Marshall and Luke Borserio will embark on a source-to-sea paddling trip on the Nass River starting from the Sacred Headwaters located in the Klappan Valley ("Klabona" in local Tahltan dialect).  They will paddle 380km to the ocean and end their journey at the Nisga'a Village of Ging̱olx (Kincolith). Along the way they will be stopping in local villages, and on June 29th they will be hosting a free Youth kayaking workshop in the Village of Gitwinksihlkw. The Skeena Paddling Club will be providing all the necessary kayak gear and safety equipment, and this will be the first of many free workshops hosted throughout the Northwest.

Created in 2018, the Skeena Paddle Club is an incorporated society which was the brain-child of a  collective group of local paddlers with an undying love for the Rivers and River systems of the Skeena, Nass, and Stikine areas. The Club is available to everyone, however the main goal is to promote paddling to local youth across the NorthWest. This past winter, the Skeena Paddling Club has been hosting regular pool sessions and providing free gear and instructions from experienced certified paddlers. As the local rivers begin to awake from their winter slumber, the Club plans on moving from the pool to the natural waterways which have been utilized for trade and travel by the Indigenous People of the Northwest since time immemorial. In the age of constant industrial advancement and global warming, these waterways are becoming increasingly more at risk, not to mention the salmon, bears, and all other animals relying on these systems for survival. Thru promotion and sharing of our love for paddling, the Skeena Paddle Club hopes to inspire people to get out into the surrounding natural environment and experience the plethora of rivers we are blessed to surrounded by. This is especially important for the Youth as they are the ones who will inherit this land once we are gone, and a focus of this summer is to run regular free Youth Paddling clinics on some of our local rivers.

The Skeena Paddling Club has been extremely fortunate thus far to have had numerous donations of used paddling gear, not to mention time and effort by a number of key players. Paddling gear is by no means cheap to acquire, and in order to continue on our path of river promotion, we are looking for donations by generous groups and individuals to aid us as we build our fleet.  The eventual goal is to have enough equipment and gear to provide regular lessons and workshops to Youth in the Skeena/Nass/Stikine district areas.

Through your generous donations, the Skeena Paddling Club will be able to continue to grow, enabling it to establish itself as a positive, healthy, educational resource for our Communities.
