Hi! My name is Jene' Smith. I am originally from Sacramento, California but I am currently attending school at Xavier University of Louisiana.
For someone who doesn't really travel much, I stepped out on faith and traveled across the United States to better my education. I am over joyed I stepped out on faith. Xavier University of Louisiana was not my first school of choice, however, my academic achievements allow me to obtain some scholarships to help finance my education. I just could not pass up the opportunity of stepping out of my comfort zone. Committing to Xavier was the best decision I have made thus far in this journey of life. I've had the opportunity to meet new people, learn about different cultures, and work towards my career goals. My first year in Louisiana, I have embraced the city and school’s culture and I have come to love my new residence. I love school because it gives me the tools and opportunity to learn and help others. I’ve always known college was my next journey to reach my career goals. I am the first in my family to attend a 4 year university and I will be proud to accomplish being the first to graduate. My plan is to graduate with a bachelors in psychology and become a physical therapist.
Now I am in pickle. Now in my junior year, I was not privileged in receiving the financial aid amount I was given during my freshman year. I am trying to raise money to pay the remaining balance of my sophomore tuition. I am currently working a summer job, applying for scholarships, and saving all my summer income to pay for my schooling, however, it will not be enough for my tuition. My mother is a single parent, raising not only me, but my two brothers. My mom has done everything she can to help me get in school and keep me in school, but the funds are not there. I know my story isn't the saddest, but the possibility of not being able to go to school and not knowing where the money is going to come from is stressful. Any money donated is a blessing and greatly appreciated. No matter how big or small the donation, anything will help. Thank you and God bless
