Nicaragua 2018

Dear friends and family,

I’m excited to share with you that I’ll be going to Nicaragua again this summer. This will be my fourth trip and I can’t wait to get back. I’ll be going with a team of middle schoolers from my church, Victory Hamilton Mill, to serve at the LifeLink International base.

While there we spend most of our time at the school helping with construction projects, teaching English in the ESOL class, and thanks to a generous sponsor, this year we’ll be able to help the students in their first-ever technology class (no other schools in the area have a computer lab). The best part is when we get to play with the students during recess because I’ve learned that play is a universal language; they like it when we teach them new outdoor games to play. When we’re not at the school we help the local community by delivering food to families in need and completing small projects for the community churches.

My favorite part is spending time with two friends that I’ve made while visiting there – Fernando and Emely. Fernando is a year older than me and is a special friend and student at the school. I enjoy hanging out with him as much as I can; thankfully his English is getting better each year so we can communicate because my Spanish isn’t the best. Emely is the student my family sponsors. She’s in 4th grade and is a member of the school’s dance team. It’s very neat to know that because of a small monthly contribution from my family she’s able to attend school, eat a hot meal each day, get medications when she needs them, learn English, and do something she loves – dance. When I spend time with her I get to learn about her family and lifestyle and share with her about mine. We’re hopeful that all of things she learns at the school will help break the cycle of poverty in her family. Our hope is that one day she’ll graduate from high school, go to college and get a good paying job. All things her parents have not been able to do.

Going on this trip is something I’m very passionate about because Nicaragua has become very special to me. Each year part of the preparation for the trip is finding people to help me get there through financial contributions. It’s not easy to ask people for money, but when I see people start contributing towards my financial goal it builds my faith that they believe in me and what I’m going to do.

I am responsible for raising $1,600.00 to go on this 8-day trip (cost includes round-trip airfare, room and board). My goal is to get 40 sponsors to donate $25.00. To help me achieve this goal I am asking you to become part of the journey with me.

My team appreciates your prayers as we travel and serve in Nicaragua June 2nd thru June 9th. Thank you for your support – prayerfully or financially.

Thank you for your support!
