SJ3D Labs PPE Shields for Covid-19

SJ3D Labs, a student-run 3D Printing Company started at St. Johns Country Day School, is raising money to be able to print more Personal Protective Equipment, specifically shields, for our medical community. These are donated, not sold, so all expenses are 100% community funded.
What we are making:
We are printing Protective Face Shields for the local EMS in our community. These masks are comprised of a PETG headband, elastic band, and clear plastic film. These are used in addition to a face mask and are worn to protect the users from the spread of the virus. It protects against spray (e.g. sneezing) and other airborne mediums of virus spread.
We have chosen to use this open-source design released by Prusa Research. We picked this model because of its optimized design to allow us to maximize our output of these durable parts.
We decided to use PETG in printing these shields because it allows for further heat tolerance and durability that may be essential in the sterilization process required for actual use.
Dura-Lar was selected because it was the cheapest and most readily available material that we would be able to cut with our current Vinyl cutters. The Mylar and Acetate composition of this material give the shields anti-tearing properties as well as heat resistance.
Lastly, we chose the button-hole elastic because it would allow the masks to be user-customizable, making them one size fits all.

Firstly, donations will go towards Rolls of plastic filament (PETG). These will be used in conjunction with our 3D Printers to create the headband portion of the mask.
Next, Rolls of Dura-Lar (a clear plastic film) will be purchased and cut out using our Vinyl Cutters to create the shield part.
Furthermore, Rolls of Buttonhole Elastic will be bought, cut out, and attached to the back of our headbands, for comfort and adjustability.
Lastly, a portion of the money will go to maintaining the 3D Printers, Vinyl Cutters, and other equipment used to make this project possible.

These are not the only expenses. In addition to actual materials, money is used to; upkeep 3D Printers (e.g. build plates, extruders, Bowden tubes), upkeep Vynil cutters (e.g. blades, cutting mats), electricity, server maintenance, sanitization and much more.

1 Week in: We have completely relocated the 3D Printing Lab, from St. Johns Country Day School to our own homes. We then ordered the first batch of materials, experimented with different, cheaper solutions, and were able to finish 30 masks.
Future: We hope to make 50-100 masks a week for as long as possible until they are no longer needed.
