22 sixteen-year-old soccer players from Staten Island are about to live their dream.
Our local Staten Island United Adriatic U16 Boys’ Soccer team – ranked 5th in New York State, 30th in our region, and 63rd nationally – has earned the opportunity to travel to Sarasota, Florida, from March 31st - April 5th to compete in the prestigious Iber Cup Soccer Tournament, one of the most important international youth soccer competitions in the world.
The only thing standing in their way is funding. You can help.
The team needs your help to raise $30,000 by March 20th so they can get to the tournament that is the culmination of everything they have been working toward. Six hundred of the best youth soccer teams from more than 50 countries across the globe will be competing in this tournament. Being invited to participate is an honor that reflects just how dedicated, hard working, and talented each member of the Adriatic team is.
These athletes have the ability to play soccer at the college level. Indeed, for some it is their best pathway to college. They need your help to get there.
By helping the Adriatic U16 team get to the Iber Cup, you will be enabling them to play soccer with top international teams in front of college coaches – an opportunity that could make all the difference in their futures.
The budget for the team comes from out of pocket parent contributions. This money pays for gym time, the purchase of training equipment, buses, out of league scrimmages, etc. Our regular budget is simply not enough to cover the full amount of our team’s expenses to a tournament of this caliber.
