Support the Sithengile Library

“If we see successful people who came from Sithengile, it is because of the library” – Samkelisiwe, Grade 12

Our school is located in the Clermont township in KwaZulu-Natal (20 minutes outside of Durban). According to South Africa's 2016 Census, only 39.3 per cent of Clermont's residents have completed Matric (Grade 12) or higher.

Sithengile Senior Secondary School maintains a reputation for academic excellence in Clermont. Our school is rigorous and empowers learners to be South Africa's future leaders and changemakers.

The heartbeat of our school rests in the Sithengile Library.  Learners come here to feel challenged, nurtured, safe, and supported. Through the library’s programming during and after-school hours, learners hone their passions and unlock their inner resources.

The Sithengile School Library is more than a library – it is a home. Learners can form their own reading clubs, join our journalism and creative writing clubs, play board and card games, participate in debates, poetry performances, and critical discussions. At the Sithengile library, every student can find the space to be celebrated.

This extraordinary place needs your help. While we are already privileged with many books and a beautiful space, we are lacking critical tools to equip our learners with the required technological literacy required in South African higher education and in the workforce.

With your support, we hope to:

- Raise funds for printers where students can print from their cell phones via Bluetooth (Students currently do not have access to a printer or to internet). Without access to printers, it is extremely difficult for students to apply for University scholarships (as all of these applications are found online and without internet, ).

- Data bundles for student research. We are fortunate to have a Wi-Fi router, but need more funds so that we can consistently load our router with data (for those of you in the States: the easiest way to get internet access in South Africa is to purchase data for portable Wi-Fi routers).

- Purchase up-to-date and culturally relevant reading material.

-Fund additional library programming to bring in guest speakers and supply our learners with additional educational opportunities.

Thank you so much for your generous support!
