Hi All,
We have setup this Gofundme page for our good friend, Scott Sislane who has been diagnosed with Hairy Cell Leukemia, a very rare but treatable chronic blood cancer. Hairy cell leukemia prevents the formation of healthy white blood cells affecting the body’s immune system and makes Scott very susceptible to infectious diseases. As luck would have it, about two weeks ago, Scott entered the hospital in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire and it was determined that he had come down with pneumonia and another secondary infection just days before his planned chemo treatments would have started. The pneumonia and infection were very aggressive and difficult to control and as a result Scott was transported to Mass. General Hospital early last week via ambulance. The staff at Mass general has been able to slowly get Scott back on track for his needed chemo treatment, which is now just beginning, but because of the resulting weakness from the pneumonia and infection, Scott will likely have a prolonged stay in the hospital to regain his strength and get proper care, which was completely unanticipated. This has put an additional unneeded strain on Scott and his family, as Mass. General Hospital is a minimum 2 hour drive without traffic from their home. This means being out of work and hotel stays in Boston for his wife, Meg, separation from their two great daughters, Katie and Abbey, and tons of travelling back and forth. If that was not enough to deal with, Meg, had a very costly car breakdown while commuting to the hospital. The whole family is rallying together and staying positive but sometimes we all can use a helping hand. They have not asked for this and don’t deserve the latest cards they have been dealt.
The purpose of this Gofundme account is to provide some relief by taking the burden of these costs off their shoulders so they can concentrate on getting Scott better. It is anticipated that his stay at Mass. General Hospital may crest well over a month, so imagine what that means in terms of leave from work, hotel costs, gas, food on the fly as well as the general disruption to their normal day to day lives.
Dave, Matt, Simon, and I are great friends of Scott and got to know him and his family through our mutual love of old cars. This family is one of the most welcoming, warm and generous there is and we know they have tons of great friends out there. As such, we figured asking for a little help from you would be a nice way of letting Scott and his family know how much they mean to us and how wide their ‘family’ extends. We want to help them make this as easy as possible. Please consider donating; it would be very appreciated.
