Sir Thomas was at the county shelter with a severe upper respiratory. He had been pulled off the street. Despite him being so sick, the shelter did his neuter surgery and vaccinated him.  : ( When we signed him out to PAWS, we noticed the meds the shelter provided were not working, he was actually getting worse!  We took him to our vet who changed his meds, and we did a culture. This is expensive but a definite need for these kitties with smushy noses. Bacteria can become trapped and it can be fatal if not treated quickly by the right meds. The culture results had us switching meds again (round#3). He got about 80% better. We then moved him to a new med (from the same culture results) and he again got better (round#4), and relapsed. We did another culture, and started a new medicine (round#5). The same thing happened....he got better and relapsed again. We have now done an Upper Respiratory PCR and are waiting on test results. Overall, he is much better than he was in the beginning, but still snuffly and sneezy. Our goal is to get him 100% so he can be adopted. He is a sweetie. By the way, Sir Thomas is a STUNNING purebred British Shorthair in the trendy new color called "golden shaded". It took us quite a bit of research to figure that one out! Any donations are greatly appreciated, we are fast approaching the $500 mark on his care, and we are sure we will need to purchase round #6 of meds after his PCR test results come in. Thanks!
