Single Women in Motherhood is a non-profit organization that helps support single mothers and their children as they work through the challenges being a single mother presents. Motherhood while being the most beautiful Is also one of the most challenging periods of a woman’s life. While in many cases this stress is subdued by the help of a spouse or of a supportive family, many single mothers do not experience this much needed support. That’s why here at S.W.I.M we have worked hard to design programs to support moms in leading a productive, healthy, and balanced life.
Our Little Fish program allows mothers to drop off their children (free of charge) while they run essential errands or need a small mental health break. The Let’s Talk About It program provides a safe space for mothers to talk about their health, mental health, relationship and financial struggles with our founder. Ann Marie is a certified life coach but that is the least of her credentials. She is a firm but kind and passionate support and as a single mother success story herself is someone our moms can both confide in and look up to. Community Support Agent program connects moms with volunteer community agents to assist them to overwhelming meetings, and appointments to provide emotional support. It is bittersweet for us to share a story about a mom who was in rough situations when she came to S.W.I.M but with the help of our programs has flourished:
Jennifer’s Story;
“Jennifer,35, was working far from home when her boss introduced her to who ended up being the father of her baby. Not knowing many people out west, and working at a respectable company, Jennifer trusted his judgement and went out on several dates with Tom. The two hit it off and continued to see each other for a year or so. Things were going well for Jennifer, and she was happy in her relationship, so when she found out she was pregnant she was ecstatic. She was in love, and about to raise a beautiful family. Unfortunately, her joy was short lived.
Jennifer learned that Tom had a bad past and upon finding this out she confronted him and he left only to contact her to sign over his rights. Not the father she was imagining for her little girl. Feeling crushed, overwhelmed and hopeless Jennifer returned home to London, Ontario to be closer to her family as she prepared to raise her daughter as a single mother. When she came to London she sought out S.W.I.M to help her get back on her feet. In summary, after Jennifer went through our programs she regained the stability she had lost. She gained self-confidence, as well as new skills that helped her become more self-dependent. Most importantly, she regained hope that she could work a great job she loved while raising her beautiful baby. She discovered with the right support, resources and attitude she can do it on her own while still maintaining a happy and healthy mind. One that made her want to continue to love life, and herself. Spouse or no spouse. Jennifer is now pursuing her dreams and working on opening a Holistic health and Yoga studio and retreat.”
