My brother, a single father of two little girls, was severely injured during a boating trip with our family. The accident left him hospital-ridden for a week due to a deep tear impacting his lower back muscles. He also suffered an injury to his spine with caused a bulging disc between his L4 and L5 vertebrae. The rip in his muscle tissue has caused a condition called Rhabdomyolysis, which occurs when muscle tissue breaks down and causes a chemical to be released in the blood which can damage the kkidneys and even the liver if the levels are high enough. His heart and kidneys have had to work overtime; recovery has been slow. This accident has caused a difficult time for his two small daughters, who want their dad to be able to run around with them again. He was a very active and involved father and will need intensive physical therapy to return to normal. Initially, he was unable to walk, stand or move without aid. Because of the severity of the Rhabdo and injuries he has been unable to return to work as of yet. His Doctor will conntinue to monitor his blood and check for levels of the rabdo as well as healing and pain management in his back. It will be at least 30 days before he is re-evaluated about returning to work. If you can help, absolutely anything will be appreciated! We estimate costs to be upwards of $60,000. So far, we are looking for help to cover the following costs: a week-long hospital stay, upcoming physical therapy to regain strength and confidence to walk, food and childcare expenses, and housing support. He was in-between insurance plans, so all costs would be out of pocket.
