So there is absolutely no way for me to do this other than to just do it. We have received a lot of calls and text of condolence. And you have know idea how much it means to us.
On 5-23-2020 at around 12:15am a young man with no care in the world driving his F-250 “Drunk” off his ass drove head on into our little family of children. Caleb was driving , Shelby in the passenger seat and Kylee in the back behind Shelby.
The kids where out so late because we had a dog fight and one of the dogs was hurt and they where taking her in for Amy to stitch up.
They left here a little before midnight and headed for Brownsville.
I turned my ringer up on my phone (I always do that when they go someplace) and went in to bed. And then that call came. Amy was the second on the seen. I can imagine the fear she felt when she saw it was the kids. I am forever grateful she was there when she was. Our Babies knew she was there and I know they found comfort in that. Caleb passed relatively quickly. And Shelby was awake even when I got there. Amy and me where both able to say we loved her. However we thought we would just see her at the hospital. Kylee was the first the be taken away and was transported to Springfield. Amy and I decided she would head to be with Shelby as she was in worse in condition. I headed for Springfield. Getting there I was promptly told I could not go on the hospital because of this shit going around. I said she was a child. They let me in. After checking on Kylee a trooper asked me to step outside and told me Shelby too had past.
Now I had to tell Kylee. I sat next to her held her hand and just told her. She said. “Daddy the last thing we did was say we loved each other. She said as soon as they realize what was going on her and Shelby just started saying I love you. Caleb was unable to speak but she said they knew he could understand them. So the started telling him they loved him until they could tell he couldn’t hear anymore. And continued with each other until likely Shelby become to weak to talk.”
Kylee has gone through one surgery already to repair abdominal injuries. And will have another one in the morning. She’s being kept asleep currently so they can control her condition better. We are in hopes that all will go well and she will start down a long road to recovery. Some physical. And some that will never heal.
We as a family and community have lost two young Beautiful human beings. Why? Well because a 21 year old man needed just a couple more beers.
I am aware this is a hard post to read. Believe me it was hard to write. But out babies where so young. And there friends are also so young. And young people can often be hard to get through to without a hammer. Please learn from our family and community’s loss.
I keep waiting to see them walk in so I can tell them the story I read on FB. But it was our story and their never going to come home.
Love you all
