Simon's Spinal surgery and Stem Cell Treatment

Donation protected
As many of you know In May 2018 Simon returned from a business trip, went to bed and at some point in the night must have got out of bed and fell down the stairs. The nature of of his landing coupled with his large frame caused a catastrophic spinal cord injury along with many other complications.

After 12 weeks in intensive care (see photo) followed by many months at Sheffield spinal hospital and rehabilitation Simon returned home wheelchair bound and in need of 24 hour care.

An an injury like this is difficult for anyone, Simon being an independent ex rugby playing retired police officer found it very hard to accept his new way of life but with determination and a huge amount of effort has managed to regain some movement in his arms and legs but still has little movement in his hands and feet meaning that he needs assistance with everyday things like eating/dressing etc that we all take for granted.

We we have recently found a doctor who is confident that an operation to remove a piece of bone pressing in his spinal cord and inserting some stem cells to help to repair the damage that Simon has a great chance of recovering further. He has had a scan which the doctor has looked at and is very hopeful for a successful surgery.  The private operation and associated costs will be £22,000. If for any reason it can not go ahead there will be adaptations and equipment that Simon can use the funds for to try to make life a little easier.

Simon retired from the Metropolitan  Police after over 30 years service, he then spent the next 12 years as an independent financial crimes expert working with many international organisations around the world. He is a Chartered Security Professional and a fellow  of the security institute. He is also a Certified Anti Money-laundering Specialist. He enjoyed this work very much and is keen to return to the sector.

Simon played rugby for 37 years for both his Saturday club Old Reedonians as well as the police on a Wednesday in the front row, despite that he managed to avoid any neck injuries until falling down the stairs :) after retiring from rugby he enjoyed cycling and playing golf (badly).

We appreciate you taking the time to read and share his story, any money raised will be gratefully received and faithfully applied.

We we will be sure to update this page with any developments!

Many thanks
