On December 30th, 2020, we lost our Super Star Simeon Holloway. For 100 years our Super Star lived an amazing award winning life. His favorite
saying was “Set a goal and go after it!”
He lived by this mantra every single day!
Simeon was born in Gary, IN, 1920. Immediately upon graduating high school, he went to work in the steels mills of Indiana. He soon realized that there wouldn’t
be any future in working at the steel mills, he then made the decision to go away
to college. He applied and was accepted into North Carolina College for Negroes (now known as NC Central University) this accomplishment made Simeon the first in his family to go to college. During his time at college WWII broke out.
At the same time, the U.S. Navy was actively recruiting black men from
segregated high schools and colleges across the state of North Carolina.
In 1942, Simeon and 43 others enlisted and became members of the U.S. Navy B-1 Band, offering blacks for the very first time the opportunity to carry the rank of Officer in the U.S. Navy.
After WWII, he returned to college and pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and graduated with a degree in music and in drama. He then began his teaching
career in North Carolina. Simeon met his wife during this time and had their first child. Simeon eventually relocated to Niles, MI where he continued to teach and
grow his family. In Niles, he was surrounded by his family (sisters, brothers and
extended family) that he cherished and adored, but deep down he had a calling for acting. He packed his family up and moved to Southern California. While living in California, he continued to teach while starting his budding acting career. He appeared in several commercials, magazine ads and TV shows such as Good Times,
227, Sanford And Son, and Father Murphy to name just a few. While living in
California he was active in the community and several organizations along with
directing several choirs.
After retiring, he moved to Las Vegas with his family. He remained very active in
his local community and became President of a branch of AARP and
continued as a long time active member of his fraternity. Simeon also started the Jester Hairston Music Association.
Simeon continued to live by his favorite motto and decided to try out for the
Senior Olympics metaling in several events. Simeon’s passion for travel took him
to many continents and traveling well into his 90's. In addition to his family which he loved unconditionally, he considered his travels one of his greatest
accomplishments.
The forever driven man has inspired the Holloway Family to establish the
Simeon O. Holloway Scholarship fund continuing his fighting spirit to set a goal
and go for it! This scholarship will assist a student or students with their goal to
attend college and support their higher education goals.
Your generous donation towards this scholarship fund will be a remarkable
legacy for Simeon. He was passionate about our youth earning a higher education and this would be a fitting tribute to the man we all hold in esteem regard.
Thank you for supporting this incredibly important effort, your love and support
doesn't go without notice. Continued contributions will be tax deductible as we work toward 501c3 status.
Our love to all..
The Holloway Family
