Silvia needs new home after quake

Donation protected
A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake rattled Mexico on Sept. 19, 2017, killing more than 200 people.

When my friend Silvia got home from work after the earthquake, she discovered her entire building had collapsed. All of her belongings were trapped inside her fourth floor apartment.

Her belongings, including her computer, are lost forever and now Silvia needs to start her life all over again. She is the sole caregiver for three elderly relatives in their 70s, so she has a steep road ahead.

She urgently needs $2,000 to cover her immediate costs. She needs to find a new place to live, replace her computer,  clothing, furniture and kitchen supplies.

Living in Mexico City is not easy at the best of times due to its fragile infrastructure. After the earthquake, it will be extremely difficult for her to recover.

I am a journalist currently living in Toronto. Until December 2016, I worked in Mexico for three years at an scientific research center, where I met Silvia.

Please help Silvia get back on her feet by contributing whatever amount you can, no matter how small.
