Silly Strides Sponsored walk

What are we doing?
CH is one of many mentees who benefits from the support services provided by Make it Mentoring and I have been her mentor now for nearly 18 months. CH is very active and enjoys her fitness activities.  She would like to do something good for her community by utilising her talents. So, on Friday 1st May 2020, CH and myself plus a few members of the MiM team are doing a SPONSORED SILLY STRIDES walk to raise money for fruit for the Vintage Birdcage Cakery’s community meals.  CH and and I will spend an hour walking in very strange ways; backwards, dolly steps, wiggly, high knees, dribbling a football, skipping, dabbing. Plus wearing rainbow colours and singing along to CH’s favourite Disney tunes. We will be Social Distancing of course.
CH’s idea is to do something wacky and fun, putting herself out of her comfort zone, and help those in need.

Who are the Vintage Birdcage Cakery and what are they doing?
The Vintage Birdcage Cakery is a vintage style Cafe situated on the beautiful Kingsgate Park in Yate. Serving award winning breakfasts, lunches, homemade cakes and drinks, the cafe is incredibly popular with local people.

Nicole and the team at VBC are reaching out to the local over-70’s who are vulnerable and in self isolation due to Covid-19. Every day they are making and delivering fresh soup, fruit and cake to hundreds of those in desperate need. This has been a free service run on the goodwill and donations of the local community. However, they are running low on fruit supplies and have reached out for help.
