Silent Fundraiser for my Mum

Donation protected
My mum’s name is Paula. She is my best mate. When I turned 7, she became a single mother to me and my sister, Sigourney. Not a day went by where she wasn’t there for us. Family to her is everything. She puts her blood, sweat and tears into making sure we are healthy and happy. Our lives come before hers, always.

The last two years have been extremely unfair to my mum. Her dream had always been to open a hair salon at home. After years of hard work and determination, she did this. She turned a house into a home and a dream into reality, all while looking after two children. It wasn’t long though until the business started faltering. It wasn’t enough to sustain. Without a fully operational business, she is now jobless and constantly searching for stable work. This is the first hardship Mum is being forced to suffer.

In the middle of last year, my sister was attacked. She was set on fire while she slept. Like our mum though, she’s a fighter. With Mum’s help, Sigourney was able to rehabilitate. However, Mum didn’t take any time to look after herself. The stress has taken a toll on her and her ability to work. It sent a shockwave through the entire family, and things haven’t been the same since.

When I was very little, Mum suffered from ovarian cancer. This illness was very close to taking her life. I remember waiting at the hospital for hours and hours, crying over the unknown. Recently, I found out that these cancerous cells have returned to her body. She has asked me to not tell anyone about this. So I ask everyone reading this to be as silent about this fundraiser as you possibly can.

The fact that Mum’s own body is now attacking her while she is facing unimaginable hardships breaks my heart. Her business/dream which she worked so hard to build, her home which she created from the bare minimum, her entire livelihood, it’s all slipping away. She never expects help from anyone. But doesn’t she deserve it? I don’t know if this silent fundraiser will work. I don’t have any expectations. But my mum is my world, I have to try.

(Update 19/10)

Mum has fallen and fractured her rib cage. She can barely breathe and cannot work at all. She has also been in a car accident which has done serious damage to her car.

Every dollar counts.
