Silas Alexander Welsh Medical Fund

Silas Alexander Welsh - son of Lexi and Brian Welsh Jr. was born via emergency C-section on August 29th 2017 at 35 weeks. He was born with critical complications and has been in the NICU since birth. Silas' immediate medical conditions consisted of severe hydrops, high direct bili anemia, pulmonary hypertension, portal vein thrombosis and an enlarged heart. He was transported to St. Christopher's Children's Hospital in Philadelphia the day after his birth where he was assigned a team of doctors for care and recovery. Immediately, he was given a double exchange transfusion, IVIG infusion, sedated and intubated for the first few weeks of life.

His high level of bilirubin caused great concern with his liver function. Multiple tests were performed to attempt to diagnose the cause of his complications but no definitive answer has been provided as of yet. He has had several chest x-rays, an ultra sound of the spine, abdomen and multiple ECHOs of his heart. Additionally, he has had MRIs of his liver and brain and a CT scan of his inner-ear. Silas was born with multiple skin tags around his ears which will have to be addressed at some point in the future via surgery. He is taking several medications and has made positive progress in the past 7 weeks. Since his admission into the hospital, he has come off of the ventilator and is no longer sedated. Silas began feeds via a feeding tube a couple of weeks ago and has recently been introduced to bottle feedings and nursing.

At this point we have no idea when Silas will be released to go home. The doctors continue to focus on his feeding/weight gain, pulmonary hypertension, cause of the anemia and fluctuating levels. We do know that after his release, Silas will most likely need outpatient medical services for a period of time.

All donations received will be used towards ongoing medical expenses arising for the high level of care needed for Silas.

We appreciate the support, encouragement and prayers from our family, friends and strangers that are touched by Silas’ battle towards healing. Your kindness has certainly made a difference in our lives. Many thanks and God Bless you!
