Sigfredo's Dream: Yankee Stadium

Donation protected
Sigfredo Barros has been a reporter-editor in the sports department of Cuba's official country-wide daily newspaper, Granma, for over 46 years.  For decades he has lived and breathed baseball, Cuba's national religion.  And for decades he has harbored a dream of making a pilgrimage to perhaps the two greatest shrines in the baseball world:  Yankee Stadium and Cooperstown. Together we can make Sigfredo's dream a reality.

I take small groups of Americans to Cuba for people-to-people cultural exchanges.  Since 2014 I've been introducing these folks to my good friend Sigfredo Barros.  He speaks fluent English, is an engaging conversationalist and, if you like and know baseball, he can endlessly share and trade stories about the great players and teams and games of the past, both in Cuba and in the U.S..  He's been great company to my travelers and a true friend to me.  Three of my past travelers--Steven DePaul, Ferris Wehbe, Rick Levin--and I have taken the lead in making this trip happen this summer.  Sigfredo is 72 years old, still writing for Granma, and has absolutely no chance of getting to Yankee Stadium or Cooperstown in this lifetime without our help.

Here is Sigfredo's  planned itinerary:
8/23 Havana to NYC, and transport to Cooperstown, New York.
8/24 Visit Baseball Hall of Fame
8/25 Attend Yankees vs. Mariners game at Yankee Stadium
8/26 Attend Yankees vs. Mariners game at Yankee Stadium
8/27 NYC to Havana

Visit this page to read a good biography of Sigfredo Barros.

Sigfredo is the center of attention at the Esquina Caliente, Havana's famed 'hot corner' in the Parque Central where fans argue endlessly about baseball.
