Rush Family Hurricane Recovery

Donation protected

It's time to come together again for one of our own. Hurricane Irma has devastated the Rush family. I've created this fundraiser on behalf of Sierra and her wonderful mom Lana, and will turn over control of the funds once as their internet connectivity becomes more reliable.

The story about why this is needed is best told by Sierra herself:

When Hurricane Irma hit, we anticipated a lot of loss but did not realize what the outcome would be. We still doubted very much that our home would lose its’ roof, expecting surge damage - which we did not get. It was pretty devastating to return and realize the place we were living in lost its’ roof. It was also our goal not to ask for help, and not to post negative ‘disaster porn’ style pics to get people to feel bad about our situation. A lot of folks asked what they could do to help, and for a long time we thought we wouldn’t really need it. We have been doing a lot of waiting and hoping, something would come through. Whether it was from friends suggesting they might have something, only for it not to pan out or the government itself.

At this point, we are essentially homeless and living in a condemned home which we can only stay in for a short time, as they need to try to repair or replace it. With no ETA on how long it will take to restore we need a place to stay ASAP. Our rental is currently occupied by two young women who need a place to stay just as badly.
FEMA is still pending but they have a very limited number of Trailers/Mobile Homes for IRMA folks. This is because Harvey tapped their resources extensively. Since we have no guarantee we will get one, or how much assistance we will get if any, we need to find our own solution ASAP. With the Keys having already pricy, limited housing available, IRMA has taken out a good deal of the rental market and landlords are taking advantage of the fact.

As we tapped out our own funds just evacuating we need help, much less dealing with the fall out and trying to salvage what we can. We hate to ask but we have no choice now. Currently we’re looking at getting our own RV or Trailer from South Florida, as we have a place to put one but no funds to actually purchase/make a down payment. This would allow us to recover, even in a small space until our rental is restored or we find another. An alternative to that is we could potentially use it to rent/make FLS somewhere.

Anything helps. I wanted to believe we weren’t as bad off as some, and we made it out with our lives. But we are struggling to survive and this is our last resort.
